Management of a lover

essay image

It is said, "Love is a scourge & affection is a deadly poison." I do not know whether these words are a verse of poetry or a popular proverb, and I also do not know who said it, but in the sixties of the last century, the Syrian singer Fahd Balan sang it in his song "Aliem Allah", and those of my age certainly know who Fahd Ballan is. I find this line of poetry to be very expressive of the extent of the power of love that becomes an affliction on the lover, and how that love can turn into a lethal poison if it does not reach the beloved one or if life treats it poorly. An affection that a person sacrifices dearly and preciously and does not satisfy except with wonderful things. I think that what we need in this country is love and adoration, and without that, everything is useless. Whenever we love our homeland, it will be raised, and the state of our generations will be perfect. What summoned this poetic verse from the depths of my memory is the assignment of Sheikh Ahmed Al-Nawaf Al-Sabah as Prime Minister, and I take this opportunity to congratulate him with the confidence of the political leadership, wishing him all success from the heart. Since the issuance of this decree, we have begun to read and hear the great torrent of blessings, which are full of advice, some of which go beyond that to formulate the policies that the president must follow and other issues. Everyone tries to drag his highness' assignment on the whims of the trends he represents or what he considers correct. Many of them congratulate out of love in general, and some of their writings imply threats and hidden threats that are easily read between the lines. One of the distinguished former National Assembly members advises the prime minister to appoint an executive minister, giving an example of this "as is the case in financial institutions." To clarify the idea more and what he means specifically, the instructions of the capital markets required separating the presidency of the board of directors from the position of the executive director. Then financial institutions modified their status, so the executive heads of the boards of directors were transformed into deputy chairmen of the boards, and the position of the presidency of the board became more ceremonial than executive when it related to board work. Although the legal responsibility is great towards the presidency, the vice president has become the executive job. Frankly, I did not understand his intent, and I do not doubt that his intention is a good one, but this suggestion is not appropriate at all. In my role as well, and like the rest of the writers, I would like to advise the prime minister, but from a unique perspective: your highness the President, you love Kuwait and the people of Kuwait love you. Transform your love for Kuwait into a love that will be a scourge and a deadly poison for everyone who bears a shovel of demolition, for everyone who is corrupt or negligent. When you see the street cratered and bumps everywhere, summon the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Public Works and ask him: "Why are there potholes appearing after the rainy season in the streets which we have just maintained?" When you see that the private houses are in violation and a fourth and fifth floor have been added to them, summon the municipality director directly and ask him: Are you doing your job properly? If you find a high school student who does not know how to write or read "Arabic," summon the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and ask him: What is happening in our schools? Do not ask the ministers, for ministers in Kuwait run their ministries for short periods of time. Rather, summon the undersecretaries and the assistant undersecretaries who have been working for years in their positions. Gather them together and tell them: "Either you work hard and disciplined, or you will be laid off." Your Highness the President, your beloved Kuwait, is waiting for you to extend a helping hand to it and your direct intervention. Regularly and without prior notice, go down the street and see with your own eyes what is happening. Walk in the markets. Try to execute any transaction like any citizen. Try to travel at the citizens’ airport. Here you will know the good from the bad, and then strike hard and fix the defaults of the country. Trust and believe in Allah and that the honorable people of Kuwait are all supporting you.

Stay safe.
