A Candidate’s Ethics

essay image

Since the dissolution of the National Assembly and the purification of the election schedules of immigrant votes, the nomination wheel and the various mechanisms it carries have begun. Social media and electronic communication systems entered the elections this time. Unfortunately, some of it turned into a tool for insulting, embarrassing, and mocking some candidates, and this is unacceptable. Criticism and dialogue should not go beyond the limits of morality and what the law allows. Unfortunately, after six decades of democracy, we have not learned much and are still unable to elect reliable men and women, except the rare ones. I am surprised by a tribe, sect, or political movement in which there are a large number of educated people who are qualified to assume such a responsibility, but sometimes we see that those who are nominated and elected are not the best qualified people. But certainly, by their best speakers and persuasion, and above all, by their ability to execute the transactions of their voters in the corridors of the state over others. This election is not the same as the previous one, because the state and its establishments, under the strict instructions of the political leadership, will not allow manipulation in the transactions of the parliament’s representatives, and accordingly, they asked the citizens to elect the best candidates, as it may be our last chance to preserve our democracy. Everyone should carefully consider every word that came in the lofty speech of His Highness Sheikh Mishaal Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Crown Prince- May Allah protect him. Citizens must realize now that their representatives will not be able to provide them with services or execute transactions. I remember a word addressed by His Highness the Prime Minister to a group of citizens when he unexpectedly visited the Ministries Complex, where he said frankly, and I will convey it as it was mentioned in Al-Qabas newspaper, because of the importance of the meanings it bears to consider before we vote: "If your transaction is legal, it will be implemented against everyone’s will." Note the phrase "it will be implemented against everyone’s will." The intent here is that the government has shown its seriousness, and in order for all of us to succeed and the country to succeed, let us take the reliable men and women to the parliament hall, who should be people of knowledge, law, and ethics, who can perform their supervisory and legislative roles and support the wheel of reform and development. Thus, the parliamentary performance will be balanced and harmonized with the government's performance. Believe me, your transactions will be carried out without anyone’s favor. Let us recall some representatives of the National Assembly who used to execute transactions; what was their financial status before and after the end of their membership in the National Assembly. Everyone knows the answer well. You have to be strong and honest. Your families, tribes, sects, and affiliates of your political movements are very full of talents, so please do not choose who will help our country.

A special message to all the brothers, the former members of the parliament or the candidates who were not fortunate in the previous elections, and who contacted me personally, whether by visit or on phone, and whom I personally communicated with through WhatsApp, congratulating them or wishing them success in the upcoming elections, and none of them answered me, not even with an "emoji", I tell you: From now on, any of you who calls or communicates with me, whether directly or indirectly, will hear words and reproaches that he will not like!

Stay Safe.
